Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) tends to start slowly, often causing a thin band of balding skin that runs along the front and sides of the hairline. FFA can also cause hair loss elsewhere on the body. Anywhere you have hair, you may notice hair loss. Many people lose some (or all) of their eyebrows.

Twice-daily treatment with topical minoxidil (Rogaine) can slow hair loss and stimulate new hair growth. This prescription cream may be combined with a topical corticosteroid cream. Hair may gradually fall out when treatment stops.

Sometimes simply addressing a medical condition prompting hair loss will be enough for the hair to regrow. In other instances, a woman might consider a medication like minoxidil (Rogaine), which helps with certain types of hair loss, or another treatment to replace or regrow lost hair.

Can FFA be cured? When the hair follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissue they cannot regrow. This means that your hair won't grow back. The condition can become inactive and your hair loss may stop after several years, but slow progression over many years is common.
